It's somewhat easy to figure out The Houston Museum District, equally called simply "The Museum District. As the name implies, many of Houston's museums are located in this district. Museum District apartments consist of townhomes, lofts, and more. This is a historical and cultural neighborhood, consisting of many older and restored structures.

The Museum District started as a group of museums and community organizations that came together to form an area rich in culture. The mission also was to improve roads, restore, and beautify an area of Houston that needed attention. The goal in 1977 was to make this area pedestrian-friendly, which may seem a small feat to some. But, Houston is very vehicle-oriented, so this was a big step in community action on the part of Alexandra R. Marshall, the leader of this movement.

While the Houston Museum District is pretty much as envisioned, there still is plenty of community action and involvement that continues to exist today. There have been (and in many cases continue to be) community improvement projects, tree planting, sidewalk planning, police support, public transportation, cultural events, and much more. Those residing in Museum District apartments have easy access if they wish to volunteer.

Some of the museums and attractions located near Museum District apartments include The Children's Museum of Houston, The Houston Museum of Natural Science, The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, The Health Museum, The Houston Zoo, The Weather Museum, The Rothko Chapel, and many more.

Shopping and fine dining are available inside many of these fine museums and attractions. For instance, the Museum Shop at the Contemporary Arts Museum offers books, periodicals, catalogs, unique handmade jewelry, children's educational gifts, and more. The Houston Zoo serves up guests at the Macaw Cafe or Cypress Circle. Kids and parents alike will appreciate the healthy, preservative-free and vegetarian meals available at the Kid's Cafe in the Children's Museum.
